After you have received your braces, our orthodontist will talk with you about the kinds of food you should avoid during your treatment. Eating the wrong types of food can damage your braces and require additional visits. In some cases, orthodontic damage might result in a prolonged treatment period.
To avoid extra visits to Linn Orthodontics and to keep your orthodontics in great shape, stay away from the following foods:
- Hard foods including hard candy or nuts.
- Crunchy foods like popcorn, potato chips and especially ice!
- Gum or sticky foods.
- Foods that require you to bite into them. This would include things like uncut apples and corn on the cob.
- Foods that require a great deal of chewing, including bagels.
There are foods that are perfect for people who are wearing braces. Those foods include
- Thinly-sliced hard fruit
- Canned fruit
- Yogurt
- Cottage cheese
- String cheese
- Applesauce
- Cooked vegetables
- Chicken or fish
Of course, these are just a few of the foods you can enjoy during your orthodontic treatment. If you have any question at all about whether something should be on the menu or not, call one or our offices to speak with Dr. Heister Linn about braces and your diet in Williamsport, Wellsboro and Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
